SSRI Antidepressants Caused the Newtown Mass Shooting
MAY 14, 2025 – On December 14, 2012, a mass shooting occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, United States. The perpetrator, 20-year-old Adam Lanza, shot and killed 26 people. The victims were 20 children between six and seven years old, and 6 adult staff members. Earlier that day, before driving to the school, Lanza fatally shot his mother at their Newtown home. As first responders arrived at the school, Lanza killed himself with a gunshot to the head.
But what the press and the Connecticut medical examiner suppressed from the public media circus that ensued is that Adam was treated with SSRI antidepressants, a class of medication that is known to cause extreme acts of violence towards others at all ages. In fact nine out of ten of the most serious mass shootings were committed by patients that were treated with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, including Columbine and Aurora, Colorado. There are multiple brands of SSRI medication including Prozac, Lexapro, Luvox, Paxil, Effexor, Zoloft and Celexa. The pharmaceutical companies are actively marketing the fact that their product causes patients to murder anyone in close proximity to them.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has been aware for decades that these mind-altering drugs can lead to suicide and homicide at all ages, yet they have not taken them off the market. It’s deeply concerning that despite multiple public hearings on the safety and efficacy of SSRI antidepressants in 1991, twice in 2004, and once in 2006, the FDA has not acted. Families who have tragically lost loved ones have pleaded for the removal of these drugs to prevent further acts of violence, but their calls have gone unheeded by the FDA.
The results have been catastrophic, heartbreaking and fatal. Tens of thousands of patients who go to the doctor to ask for help are instead dying, killing themselves and others, and ending up in prison. Almost all of the patients who committed homicide killed a member of their own family, many patients who committed homicide murdered their own children. The patients who survived this dangerous and completely ineffective form of medical treatment are seriously harmed, experiencing severe neurological syndromes for months or even years after tapering off the medication. Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors definitely cause violence, and the most serious mass shootings all have one thing in common, the shooter was on SSRI medication.
